Promoting Reproductive Health and Livelihoods for Women and Girls in Makindye Ssabagabo
As part of its comprehensive approach to community empowerment, Harvest Foundation is implementing a dedicated reproductive health and livelihoods project targeting women and girls from economically disadvantaged families in Makindye Ssabagabo Municipal Council. The project aims to address both sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and the economic vulnerability that hinders many women and girls from accessing essential health products—particularly sanitary pads
A central focus of the initiative is to increase access to affordable, high-quality, reusable sanitary pads for women and girls within the project area. Recognizing that many families lack consistent sources of income, the project goes beyond product distribution by integrating a household economic strengthening component. This involves training women and girls in tailoring and knitting skills, equipping them to produce non-disposable sanitary pads both for personal use and for sale within their communities.
To facilitate this, the Foundation established a fully functional tailoring center, which serves as both a training hub and a production site. This center operates as a pad multiplication unit, ensuring a continuous, locally-sourced supply of affordable sanitary pads while simultaneously empowering women with practical, income-generating skills. This dual approach not only helps bridge the menstrual health gap but also fosters economic independence and self-reliance among female beneficiaries.
