Empowering Youth and Women Through Vocational Skills Development in Busia, Bugiri, and Wakiso
As part of its mission to uplift underprivileged communities, Harvest Foundation is actively implementing skills development initiatives in the underserved sub-counties of Busia and Bugiri districts, as well as in Seguku, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipal Council – Wakiso district. These programs target youth and women, two groups that are often disproportionately affected by unemployment, poverty, and limited access to formal education.
In Busia and Bugiri, the Foundation is working in collaboration with community leaders and local stakeholders to advocate for improved social service delivery, particularly in the area of vocational training. As a result of this advocacy and partnership, approximately 120 children and youth from vulnerable backgrounds have been successfully linked to nearby vocational training centers. These young people are now gaining practical skills in trades such as tailoring, carpentry, welding, and hairdressing, empowering them with tools for self-employment and sustainable income generation.
Building on this success, Harvest Foundation has also invested in establishing a Science and Vocational Resource Center in Seguku, located within Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso District. This center serves as a dedicated learning hub for youth, offering hands-on training in computer literacy, electrical installation, tailoring, and crafts production. Designed to accommodate a wide range of learners, the center is open not only to students enrolled in Harvest Foundation’s school programs but also to young people from surrounding communities, especially those whose parents or guardians prefer vocational education as a more viable and immediate path to employment.
